Capital One Spark Cash Card Review

Capital One Spark Cash Card earns unlimited 2% cash back on all purchases with a $95 annual fee and 5% on hotels and rental cars via Capital One Travel.

4 min read

The Capital One Spark Cash Card is a business credit card that earns unlimited 2% cash back on all eligible purchases. It carries a $95 annual fee that is waived for the first year and is issued by Capital One under the Visa Signature Business network.

The card occupies the premium tier of flat-rate cash back business cards, positioned above the no-annual-fee alternatives with a higher welcome bonus and travel portal rewards.

What the product is structurally

Structurally, the Spark Cash Card is a Visa Signature Business credit card on a revolving credit line. Cash back is earned as a fixed percentage of purchase volume and distributed back to the account holder.

The card earns 5% cash back on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, in addition to the flat 2% on all other purchases. This elevated rate applies only to bookings made through Capital One’s travel portal.

Employee cards are available at no additional cost. All employee card spending contributes to the primary account’s cash back earnings. Capital One publishes year-end summaries that aggregate spending by category for tax and accounting purposes.

How it works in practice

Every eligible purchase — including purchases made internationally — earns 2% cash back. There are no rotating categories, no enrollment requirements, and no annual cap on the flat rate.

Hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel earn 5% cash back. Flights purchased directly from airlines do not earn this elevated rate; the enhanced percentage applies only to the hotel and car rental verticals within the travel portal.

Cash back can be redeemed as a statement credit, a check, or direct deposit. Rewards do not expire while the account is open.

The card does not charge foreign transaction fees, so the 2% rate applies to purchases made in foreign currencies at the same rate as domestic spending.

Fees and pricing mechanics

The annual fee is $95, waived for the first year of account membership. After the first year, the fee is charged annually on the account anniversary.

The welcome bonus, as of early 2026, is $500 cash back after spending $4,500 within the first three months of account opening. Welcome bonus terms are subject to change.

Capital One charges no foreign transaction fees. The ongoing variable APR applies to any balance not paid in full, calculated based on the Prime Rate plus a margin.

Limits, eligibility, and availability

Eligibility requires a business entity in the United States and a creditworthy personal applicant who provides a personal guaranty. Capital One does not publicly disclose minimum revenue requirements, but the application process evaluates both business and personal credit profiles.

Credit limits are assigned at approval and may be reviewed over time based on payment history and account activity. Employee card limits are not separately capped but contribute to the total account limit.

The card is available across the United States. Capital One does not require an existing checking or savings relationship with the bank to apply.

Tradeoffs, risks, or limitations

The $95 annual fee (after year one) represents an ongoing cost. Whether the fee is justified depends on total annual spending — at 2% cash back, a business needs to spend at least $4,750 per year above what it would earn with a no-annual-fee 2% card to offset the fee in incremental rewards.

The 5% rate on Capital One Travel hotel and car rentals requires booking through the portal. Businesses that prefer to book directly with suppliers or through travel management systems cannot access this elevated rate.

The card earns cash back, not transferable points. Businesses seeking airline miles or points for premium travel redemptions would need to evaluate the Spark Miles version, which offers the same fee structure but accumulates miles that transfer to airline and hotel loyalty programs.
