Chase Southwest Performance Business Card Review

Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Performance Business Card earns 4x on Southwest purchases with 9,000 annual TQP and $500 in WiFi credits for a $199 annual fee.

3 min read

The Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Performance Business Card earns Southwest Rapid Rewards points on all eligible purchases, led by 4x on Southwest Airlines purchases, with a $199 annual fee. The card includes a 9,000-tier qualifying point (TQP) boost annually and up to $500 in inflight WiFi credits per year.

What the product is structurally

The Performance Business Card is the premium tier in Chase’s Southwest business card lineup, above the Southwest Premier Business Card ($99 AF). It is a Visa revolving credit card co-branded with Southwest Airlines and issued by Chase.

Southwest Rapid Rewards points are not transferable to other airline or hotel programs. All redemptions occur within the Southwest ecosystem — primarily paid Southwest flights and Southwest Vacations packages.

The TQP boost (9,000 qualifying points per year) contributes toward Southwest A-List status (35,000 TQPs) and A-List Preferred status (70,000 TQPs). Holding enough Southwest credit cards and flying qualifications can contribute toward the Southwest Companion Pass at 135,000 qualifying points in a calendar year.

How it works in practice

Earn rates:

  • 4x Rapid Rewards points on Southwest Airlines purchases
  • 3x points on Rapid Rewards hotel and car rental partners
  • 2x on social media and search engine advertising
  • 2x on internet, cable, and phone services
  • 1x on all other eligible purchases

Card benefits include:

  • 9,000 TQPs credited annually (after first anniversary)
  • Up to $500 in inflight WiFi credits per year as statement credits
  • 4 upgraded boarding opportunities per year
  • Global Entry ($100), TSA PreCheck ($85), or NEXUS ($50) application fee credit
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Employee cards at no additional cost

A welcome offer for new cardholders provides a Rapid Rewards points bonus after meeting a minimum spend in the first 3 months. Subject to Chase’s 5/24 rule.

Fees and pricing mechanics

The annual fee is $199. No foreign transaction fees apply.

Southwest Rapid Rewards points do not have a fixed published redemption rate. Their value fluctuates based on the price of the cash ticket on a given route; Southwest uses a formula that adjusts points requirements proportionally to the fare. Historically, Southwest points have redeemed at approximately 1.4–1.7 cents per point when applied to revenue-based award tickets.

The $500 inflight WiFi credit fully offsets the annual fee for Southwest travelers who use WiFi on 4–6 roundtrips per year.

Limits, eligibility, and availability

Eligibility requires a U.S. business entity. Chase’s 5/24 rule applies: applicants with 5 or more new personal credit card accounts opened in the past 24 months will typically be denied. The card itself is a business card and does not count against the 5/24 total once approved.

Tradeoffs, risks, or limitations

Southwest’s network is domestic-focused with limited international service (Mexico, Caribbean, Central America). Businesses whose travel needs extend to transatlantic or transpacific routes may find the points ecosystem too narrow.

The rapid rewards earn rate is not redeemable for cash or non-Southwest travel, which limits the versatility compared to a transferable-points card like the Chase Ink Business Preferred.

The 4x earn rate on Southwest purchases and the TQP boost make this card most valuable for high-frequency Southwest flyers pursuing status or the Companion Pass. For businesses flying Southwest fewer than 20–30 times per year, the $99 Premier Business card may deliver better net value after fee subtraction.
