Business Hotel Credit Cards: Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott

World of Hyatt Business, Amex Hilton Honors Business, and Marriott Bonvoy Business compared — earn rates, free night awards, status perks, and point values.

4 min read

The three major hotel-branded business cards each accelerate earning within a specific loyalty program: the World of Hyatt Business Card, the Amex Hilton Honors Business Card, and the Amex Marriott Bonvoy Business Card. Their raw earn multipliers look dramatically different, but point values across the three programs vary considerably — making direct comparison require a cents-per-point conversion rather than a raw-points comparison.

Converting earn rates to comparable value

Hotel loyalty points are not uniform in value. Industry estimates by program:

  • World of Hyatt: approximately 1.7–2.0 cents per point
  • Hilton Honors: approximately 0.4–0.6 cents per point
  • Marriott Bonvoy: approximately 0.6–0.9 cents per point

Adjusted for point value, the hotel earn rates translate roughly as follows:

CategoryHyatt (~1.8¢/pt)Hilton (~0.5¢/pt)Marriott (~0.7¢/pt)
Hotel properties4x = ~7.2%12x = ~6.0%6x = ~4.2%
Dining, gas, wireless2x = ~3.6%4x = ~2.0%4x = ~2.8%
All other1x = ~1.8%3x = ~1.5%2x = ~1.4%

In adjusted terms, Hyatt earns at a higher effective rate at Hyatt properties despite its numerically lower 4x multiplier. On everyday business categories like dining, gas, and wireless, Hyatt’s 2x remains competitive with Hilton’s 4x once the point value differential is applied.

Free night awards

The Marriott Bonvoy Business issues a free night certificate redeemable at properties requiring up to 35,000 points per night annually. At approximate Bonvoy point value, that certificate is worth $245–$315 at full use — nearly covering the $125 annual fee outright.

The Hilton Honors Business issues a free weekend night certificate annually with no points cap. Hilton’s property cost range is wider, and the certificate can apply to aspirational properties during qualifying weekends.

The Hyatt Business does not issue a flat annual free night. Free night awards are tied to annual spend tiers: reaching $50,000 in spend generates a Category 1–4 free night (up to approximately $150 in value); subsequent $50,000 spend tiers add additional awards.

Status path and elite night contributions

The Hyatt Business provides 5 qualifying nights toward World of Hyatt elite status annually — the most structurally useful elite benefit among the three. It also automatically confers Discoverist status (entry-level), and higher spend tiers unlock Explorist and Globalist benefits through the card itself.

The Marriott Bonvoy Business provides 15 elite night credits annually — useful toward Platinum Elite (50 nights), which is two years of credits on the card alone without hotel stays. It confers Marriott Gold Elite automatically.

The Hilton Honors Business confers Gold status automatically (the second tier) with no additional elite night credits. Hilton Gold provides room upgrades and a food-and-beverage credit at eligible properties.

When each card fits

Hyatt Business — for businesses where travel concentrates at Hyatt properties (typically full-service hotels, resort brands including Park Hyatt and Grand Hyatt, lifestyle hotels including Andaz and Thompson). The Hyatt point value floor is the highest of the three programs, and the 5 qualifying night contribution is the clearest incremental status benefit.

Hilton Honors Business — for businesses with diversified hotel needs across an urban or airport-focused portfolio. Hilton’s network is the largest among the three and skews toward properties available across U.S. domestic business travel corridors. The annual free weekend night and strong 4x business category earn are the primary value drivers.

Marriott Bonvoy Business — for businesses where the free night certificate will be fully used and the 15 elite night credits are meaningful toward Platinum Elite. The $125 annual fee is the lowest among the three, making it accessible as a secondary hotel card alongside a general-purpose business rewards card.
